Recently took my cat to have a scratch on his neck checked out. Turns out he needed some cream to help it heal quicker and a course of antibiotics. Was charged £74.68. Thought this was expensive but reasoned vetenary is an expensive industry. However, after looking at the price breakdown at home and getting quotes from a couple of other local vets, realised we were charged almost three times as much as other places; £23.70 for vet consultation rather than £12.77, £21 for antibiotics rather than £11.30, a couple of quid more for the cream, and £9.03 for 'bandage application' that would otherwise be free. Four hours after getting home the bandage came off and the vets said I would have to pay a replacement. After pointing out that I had paid £9.03 a matter of hours previous, as a gesture of good will I wouldn't be charged the nurses consultation fee (about £13), but would still have to pay another tenner for materials and application. I understand that cats a likely to want/try to remove bandages, but I expected it to last longer than 4 hours. This expencive pricing is not confined to cats. I don't know specifics, but my partner's mum was quoted a price £200 more for a dog opperation then other vets. The service is normally very good, but very expensive.
Following my previous review I was contacted within an hour by the vet who was keen to help resolve the issue. He explained that there was a miscommunication when I phoned previously and he offered to re-do the dressing free of charge. In fact, he put some rubber caps over the appropriate claws rather than simply replacing the bandages. Whilst I can't remove my previous comments, it is worth saying the quality of service and care at Vets4Pets is excellent. (I can't comment on service at other vets). The extra costs appear to afford you, for example, personalised appointment times (often at very short notice) rather than having to wait in a walk-in surgery.
I recently had to get veterinary attention for my dog with his broken leg. John and Steve at Wakefield did such a marvellous job, were caring and Rocky was runnig around in days! They even claimed it straight from the insurance company so i didn`t have to worry too much about the cost. Highly recommended. The receptionists were lovely too.
